I am a three year esthetician and I got my license in Idaho, which, let's face it, isn't the highest quality of education I can get in this world.

I want to expand my knowledge base and my qualifications. Basically I want to be the best in my field and always be striving towards that. Eventually, after I've put a substantial amount of esthetics experience under my belt, I want to work for a skin care company and get knowledge of the product business and do training for them. After gaining experience in that I want to start up my own spa. I know these are lofty goals but this is basically my 20 year plan.

This field is my life and I live, breath, and sleep esthetics. Any input from you would be greatly appreciated. Preview Exit Preview. You must be signed in to add attachments.

Sammi - I'm sure Jeff will have plenty of info. It definitely does represent a higher level of commitment for an esthetician Given your interest in owning a spa at some stage in the future, covering those subjects might be useful. Generally though, I think the equivalent amount of time and money would be better spent "cherry-picking" your education from excellent instructors in the industry.

The information out there is kind of limited, and I really want to get an honest opinion, so I thought I'd ask here I know CIDESCO certification will give you the edge in the job market, and if you are looking to work overseas it is almost a must-have, but I know the full CIDESCO schooling systems for starting out are of very high caliber, but for those of us who have been licensed for years, we just take a week long class and the exam, right?

Is what you learn in the week long class really that exceptional? I'm not looking for a title to throw around, but I am an information and education junkie and want to have the most tools possible to succeed in my business and provide exceptional service to my clients. Share Tweet Facebook.

I race motorcycles and this picture although not me is pretty much exactly what I look like when going around a corner at 80mph we all look the same. I have taken about 80 - hours of training in a school on a closed course but not a single second of that time gave me the experience or confidence to lean the bike like that or put my knee on the ground.

Track time did. Fear is fear and all the coaching or class time with a professional cannot and will not transfer to me, I had to go out there and just do it. The bottom line is go out there and find a way to slowly get to the levels you want and always look for the slower and less invasive so that post peel complications are taken to almost zero no matter what Fitz your working on. Not her fault but when I asked about her experience she said only a little yet mostly fluffy procedures. She was very interested in doing the high strength peels and procedures.

The coats. How many and the results. Just use the liquid and keep track of what your doing and the coats and the results.

Frosting and no frosting. Hot spots. As for your chemistry class, I do not think that is a good idea. You will spend so much time on the things that do not really matter.

Here is an idea: Take your No. Be short with descriptions. What you will learn is far more important then you would ever learn in any chemistry class. Then do it for each one of your products.

Then cross reference the ingredients that are in each type Cream - Lotion - Cleanser - Serum. Maybe you can see where this is going? I could go on but not trying to turn this into something else, but trying to explain what happens in a class with me and the issue of classes and certifications. Keep in mind I have a very different approach to this profession and what I do, and I am sure that comes out in what I say.

I truly hope it helps. Sign Up or Sign In. Powered by. All Discussions My Discussions Add. Share Tweet Facebook Views: Marty SkinCareScience. Welcome to skincareprofessionals. Hello, you need to enable JavaScript to use skincareprofessionals. My school did a mix; they made up some mocks from scratch, they also mixed and matched questions from various past papers and then they did just take full past exam papers.

Normally they are the past paper that the people who actually took the real GCSE paper did i. June 09 and they aren't usually available till after people have completed the mocks, for the exact reason that people think of cheating ; So you could downloading a past paper and learn the mark scheme, but you don't know which series they're gonna use so you'd have to learn several mark schemes just for 1 subject, let alone all 11 or however many you are doing.

Mocks are there to help you anyway, revise now and you have less to revise when it comes to the real thing. Plus there ARE still important as if you're applying for a 6th form college they look at your mock results since you won't have sat your exams by then. Your choice. Adele E. Answer Save. Thread starter ellisiva Start date Nov 4, I would like an international qualification, and the assessment process doesn't bother me that much as I am quite able academically. I would also like to be qualified sooner rather than later. Not working for 11 months even seems like a lot of unemployment! I don't want to make any mistakes with taking on this career change - especially when so much money is involved.

I'd just like to hear about people's experiences of their beauty qualifications, the opinions you've come across, any helpful advice! Thank you all. There is no right or wrong answer and you have to do what is best for you.

So it's not necessary to have CIDESCO but if it comes with a quality learning experience and a qualification that you believe in and is of value to you then it could be a worthwhile option. Thanks laurakate that is actually a great help. Do you mind me asking what qualifications you got? Thank you. Im nvq2 beauty, nvq3 beauty massage route and nail services and then ive done a fair few extra qualifications at later dates like reflexology, intimate waxing, ear candling etc.

G Member. There used to be a snobbery value when it came to which Beauty certificate you held. Now days i do not think this is the case as there are so many good beauty pathways ie NVQ etc.

As long as you know that you are getting a recognised qualification and are taught well with thorough knowledge i do think this matters.

The only problem I have with the NVQ pathway is how long it takes to be qualified; I want to be earning as soon as possible really. Hi sorry to correct you Lysa. In my view superior training and a qualification that is revered all over the world. I'd definitely say its worth it xx.

Clooney Positive Geek. The courses are extremely indepth, detailed and require commitment and a lot of hard work and study. I chose to do CIBTAC because of my age as a mature student with family commitments and also the fact that I did not wish to necessarily travel abroad with my qualification although it would be recognised. They are both excellent qualifications but as with so many things, it is also about what you put into it.

I have CIDESCO and many of my colleagues I have worked with in the past did not, however they have gone on to have amazing careers in beauty better than mine! This is my experience from several years ago and I feel now that the Beauty industry has changed with all the certificates and short courses you can take to become a practising beautician. It is the only qualification that is truly international — represented and recognised in 33 countries and respected across the five continents.

At London Ray Cochrane Beauty School we offer the highest standard beauty qualification teaching alongside our in-house student salon. Students will get to work on actual clients in a professional and real working environment, supervised and supported by our tutors who have years of experience in beauty salon and spa. Our training combining teaching and practice makes our graduates highly employable and ready for the world of work.

Each module involves practical and theory work. As this is a professional qualification recognised around the world, theory work is essential. It may sound scary but we teach it in small digestible chunks and build you up slowly but surely.

This way it is manageable and it can be more interesting. Once you understand the theory, the practical work makes more sense and that helps to make you a better Beauty Therapist. As you progress through the course, we will work with you so that you are able to use tools and equipment competently and safely. Thursdays are Student Salon Day; this is when clients come into the school to get treatments done by our student therapists for a discounted price.

The purpose of this day is for the students to practise their knowledge and skill with the different treatments they have been taught. This gives our students better experience and knowledge of many different skin types, body types, ages and ethnicities, making them industry ready by graduation. You will only begin to work on clients after 3 months of practical and theory work in class. You can experience Student Salon day by acting as the receptionist to give you the experience of how busy a salon reception can be and also work with our booking system or working alongside our senior students with their clients so that you may observe them or help them with their treatments.

Becoming a Beauty Therapist offers so many exciting employment opportunities and with specialism in a particular field, the options become even greater.

Just imagine having the opportunity to:. After completing my diploma, I returned back to my home country of Spain. The most incredible thing was, the woman who interviewed me knew about the Ray Cochrane Beauty School!

I really love my job. As an employee of this hotel, not only to get to meet exciting people but I get incredible perks such as cheap hotel deals all around the world! I really do love my profession. It is a small school in the heart of London with small classes, the teaching is phenomenal and you get plenty of practical experience doing clients.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, I was able to get a job in an excellent spa straight after qualifying and a year later I am now setting up my own business. I am absolutely thrilled with the skills, knowledge and friends I gained here.

Definitely recommend to anybody looking for a fantastic qualification in a really friendly, easy learning environment. I had looked at other beauty schools before choosing Ray Cochrane, what made me decide that it was the right choice was not only the history of the establishment and the great reviews from previous students but also the standard of teaching.

The classes were small which gave each student confidence that we were getting the attention and help we needed. Although some of the machines were slightly old they did their job and helped us learn the basics of beauty therapy. Dr Skoryk was one of my favourite teachers, she was kind and caring but lead us forward and pushed us when needed. I have very fond memories of the school, they work you hard but it's all worth it in the end as it prepares you for the outside working world and how to present yourself to clients or how to assess situations when there are difficult or dissatisfied clients which is a must for when you are in a new job!

I can't thank everyone from Ray Cochrane enough, they have given me more than I expected I would definitely recommend this school to anyone who is thinking of going into the beauty industry!
